Livgens

A garment fitted before a metre of cloth is cut.

A fashion house wanted to fit, judge and show its garments before sewing a sample. Render builds a body from its measurements, drafts the pattern for it, drapes the cloth on the GPU and reads the fit. The browser view, a ray-traced still and a live Unreal Engine stream all draw that same settled garment.

01The brief
the house

Clothing, prints, patterns and fabrics, from first idea to production.

Every garment passes through sketch, pattern, fabric and fitting, and every physical sample costs cloth and weeks.

the question

Can a garment be fitted and judged before it is sewn?

On a body with real measurements, in the house's own fabrics, and in a view good enough to decide from.

A sleeveless dress simulated as cloth on a digital body, standing in a sunlit meadow, rendered live in Unreal Engine.
A dress block sized to the body's measurements, draped on the GPU until the cloth came to rest, then shown live in Unreal Engine on the same body. The arms are in the rest pose, not a styled one.
02What was done
Body

A body fitted to four measurements, height, bust, waist and hip, to within a tenth of a centimetre.

done
Pattern

A parametric pattern drafted for that body, with the ease the design asks for.

done
Drape

The pattern sewn and draped on the GPU with NVIDIA Warp, run until the cloth comes to rest on a 1 cm mesh.

done
Fit

Ease at bust, waist and hip, and the stretch along every seam, read off the draped garment, so a tight bust or a pulling seam shows as a number.

done
See it

The same garment in the browser, in a ray-traced still and streamed live from Unreal Engine, with the fabric at its true scale.

done
Digital humans

Lifelike people draped with their own bodies and measurements, and shown live with their own skin and hair.

in progress
03What it found
on the gpu

34 seconds instead of 208.

A shirt draped on an RTX graphics card with NVIDIA Warp, six times faster than on the CPU, with the fit reading the same: 6.1 cm of ease at the bust on the GPU against 6.5 cm on the CPU. A dress settles in 65 to 75 seconds.

again

A second look in about a second.

The same body, garment and fabric come back in 1.1 seconds instead of 47, so a fitting can move at the pace of the conversation.

one garment

Every view draws the same cloth.

The browser view, the ray-traced still and the live Unreal stream show one draped garment, so what is judged is what was simulated.

true scale

A check is the size it will be cut.

Prints and weaves are laid at their real repeat, so a stripe or a check reads at the scale it will be on the body.

in the browser

Photoreal, with nothing to install.

Unreal Engine streams into a web page, with a ray-traced picture as the fallback, so a designer, a buyer or a client looks from wherever they are.

said plainly

Not yet proven against real cloth.

No fabric has been measured on a bench yet, so every drape is shown as unvalidated until it is scored against real cloth.

A simulated cotton dress on a digital body on a forest path in dappled light.
The same settled dress in another place and another light: the garment does not change, only where it is seen.
04Product and customer lifecycles

The garment is only the start of its life.

Living Worlds simulates the lives around a product: the households that buy, what they want and how that changes over the years. The fit read from the drape is a measured input those simulations can use.

They are held to the rule every Living Worlds result is held to: registered before the data is read, scored once, and shown as unvalidated until then. In energy, a model built that way forecast forty unmetered feeders better than physics and a learned model, in every season.
